Modern methods of communication have eroded the values of society. Do you agree

In an age where when mankind is surrounded by innumerable benefits and amenities which is an outcome of the unprecedented scientific and technological innovations which has invaded the life of a person living in the 21st century. One sector which has surpassed all possible leaps and bounds of development and has not only revolutionized but has provided a completely new dimension to his life in all facets is the extraordinary progress in the sector of communication. In contemporary times communication constitutes such a pivotal part of the human life that one cannot even think of survival without the absence of such devices. Development in the sector of communication is in tandem with the increase in the number of communication techniques and a special social behavior and pattern each one tends to inculcate in the society.  For example each communication device whether it is the telephone or the television or modern inventions like iPhone or imates, each of the communication devices mentioned where on one hand catalyzes the process of bridging the barriers of communication between people is simultaneously accompanied with a dysfunction which poses a serious threat to the social fabric of the society, hence in a nutshell each of the inventions that invades the human life and forms a pervasive part of it enters with its pros and cons.

Talking about the question as to whether development in contemporary communication sciences has eroded the foundation of ethics in our society. It is to be acknowledged with a very heavy heart have that this perception is correct to a substantial extent. Dealing with any issue or argument with a rational approach and substantiated facts holds the key which helps in proving the point that is supposed to be made here. It is important to discuss that in what ways has advancements depreciated the social framework of our society. First and foremost lets shed light on how has communication and technology has posed adverse repercussions on the pillar of religion in the society.

Reason 1
Religion as understood plays an extremely in the moral and social development of any individual at all levels of his physical and intellectual growth. In medieval times development of communication techniques was mandatory in order to disseminate the message of religious doctrines to a massive population, as a result of which a conflict in both these sectors was not present.

But circumstances have taken a rather capricious and uncontrollable turn when this technological bubble began to inflate phenomenally. In the modern society, ideologies like humanism and materialism have completely marginalized religion and its doctrines from their life. The rich has no contact with his poor neighbours, brothers living in the same house do not talk to each other for many days due to their busy office schedules, even in many situations parents and their offspring fail to interact with each other and as a result completely indifferent to what their children are up to. It has been found that many people who become a victim of such indifferent exercise show early signs and symptoms of fatal diseases like cardiac diseases, depression and even psychological defects. The funny and paradox part of the entire phenomenon is that  all people mistakenly believe of living in a global village, yes it is a village where communication has introduced more boundaries instead of eliminating them.

Reason 2
At another level which is more personal it can be easily noticed that the more hollow and baseless claims made by governments of eradicating boundaries, the reality is always a dangerous contrary to their assertions. The effect of it can be observed everywhere and its victimisation occurs either intentionally or unintentionally. One of the most phenomenal inventions of the 21st century was undoubtedly the internet which provided a completely new definition to the dimension of communication. But there is a slight confusion in the entire well-engineered and managed situation. The question  needed to answer here is  that does the advantages of such inventions outcast their cons they incorporated into the society For sure no one can ignore that their benefits are numerous, but is that justification adequate to prove them immune to all accountability, for sure no they must be held accountable to the various adverse elements that have integrated in our societal framework due to these communicating inventions. For instance it is noticed that with the pace this rampant development is taking place, rate of crimes taking place are also exhibiting a consistent hike.

Reason 3
Not only this but it is far more dangerous to know that criminal or illicit activities taking place anywhere in the world are becoming more organised and equipped which most of the times leaves many of the most sophisticated organisations completely baffled and clueless.  With the advent of the internet a new category of cyber crimes emerged which in turn promoted the inculcation of many anti-social elements in the society such as hacking and philting.  In addition to this it is also worth mentioning that communication and technology today has played a significant role in isolating youth from their families. Most of their time is attributed to internet or television programs which sidelines them completely to dedicate any time for their parents or siblings, the development of such attitudes in individuals allows them the liberty to take the institution of family as for granted which ultimately reflects in their behaviour when they behave indifferently to family activities but whole-heatedly participate in activities of their peer groups. All such factors collectively converge on the same point which is the deterioration of social norms and values which manifest the stability of any society .

Reason 4
As discussed in earlier paragraphs that a major effect encountered due to this technological boom is that the source of values have changed especially when it comes to the process of socialisation of youth which has ultimately manifested its adverse effects on the erosion of moral and social that contribute in the stable functioning of a society. The question that pops here is what factors for this societal degeneration. A very simple explanation to this is that with the development of communications and technology sector the agency of media has rose to unprecedented heights in terms of impact and influence and therefore this agent without a doubt plays an imperative role in the incorporation process of values and beliefs in youngsters.

Today youngsters of any country are overwhelmingly dependant on the values and teachings that are being taught to them by media as most of their time is devoted primarily to TV viewing whether it is in the form of watching a film or listening to music. The effect of this habit can be expressed in the way that many TV programs heavily emphasise on the portrayal of violence this in turn might convince a youngster who watches many violent programs to believe that violence is a legitimate method of problem solving. In addition to this the kind of programs shown on TV also plays an important role in fostering negative stereotypes about people belonging to different countries or races.

For example US media mainly focus in developing a common stereotype in its people about Arab people either by depicting them as Bedouin, terrorist or an oil sheikh.  Another major influence of this kind of more subtle socialisation is that silently media of a foreign country tries to proliferate itself in the cultural values of another country and as a result alienates its people from their very own cultural values and social norms.

To Conclude, One should not be sceptic about the advantages the development in the sector of communication has brought for the human race, but what is more important to realize that how and to extent these so-called benefits for mankind are being used at a layman level. It is very significant to assess their dos and donts objectively so that our society does not fall prey to this vicious phenomenon where a society losses its culture, norms and values permanently and forever get themselves as hypocrites by accepting the traditions and beliefs of another society as misguide themselves as being their own.
