The Value

(a) Article Review Article on Emotional Honesty available from  HYPERLINK httpeqi.orgehon.htm httpeqi.orgehon.htm (Accessed on 18th February 2010).

The article begins with an introduction of emotional honesty as one example of or type of honesty. It describes emotional honesty as an expression of ones feelings truly without being hypocritical. In order for a person to be truly emotionally honesty, the article describes emotional awareness as the pre-requisite since it is our emotional intelligence which is related to our emotional awareness which gives a person the power and ability to identify feelings accurately.

The article further continues to note that the importance of emotional honesty is that it helps one to share hisher true feelings regarding a situation, an event or an occurrence even when such kind of sharing may mean stepping on other peoples toes. Even though the article observes that at times it is never safe or healthy for emotional honesty to be expressed in certain situations, it goes on to state that a world would be better place to live had each of the human beings in it been able to express their true feelings and never harbor falsifications which lead to both internal and external conflicts.

The article holds that a person with the highest level of emotional honesty is also a person with the highest level of self awareness and hence emotional honesty is regarded as an important ingredient for a person who desires to know himherself deeply. As a result, the article continues that we could develop the tendency of accepting ourselves and stir the habits of making better choices regarding the people we associate with and how we spend our time, financial resources and any other vital resource we lay our hands on.

My own personal view of this value is that it helps significantly in breaking the yoke of jealously and unnecessary deaths which occur because of the rifts between one person and the other as a result of failure to truly bring out what one feels about the conduct of the other person. This is true because in the world today because many people have committed suicides due to their shortfall in being emotionally honest and thus hide their true feelings only to express them on a suicide letter. It is therefore a value that would greatly change a human being if honestly used on all occasions.

Emotional honesty as a value plays a significant role in the workplace particularly in enhancing the relationships amongst the people in the organization. It eliminates fear of one another and helps the employees to carry each others burdens. It also increases the levels of trust between people working in the same place because what a person says is taken as a true reflection of oneself.  As a professional, emotional honesty impacts positively on me. The reason is that it helps in advancing my level of transparency and hence I would apply it in the workplace to improve people I work with by encouraging people to be open with one another particularly when a need arises in the organization to solve a dispute between two people.

This would go along way into maximising the level of productivity among the employees and the level of motivation that employers provide for their employees because the two sides would be totally expressing their true feelings regarding each other. Hence, as a value emotional intelligence is vital and the society needs to embrace it fearlessly.

(b) Article on accepting personal responsibility.  HYPERLINK httpwww.livestrong.comarticle14698-accepting-personal-responsibility httpwww.livestrong.comarticle14698-accepting-personal-responsibility  (Accessed on 18th F February 2010).

This article deals with a specific topic of accepting personal responsibility in the wide context of embracing responsibility as a value. The article proceeds to describe what it means for a person to accept personal responsibility and in connection to this, several issues are highlighted. First, the article observes that it means a person is able to solely steer his lifes driving wheel and take responsibility of the choices heshe makes in life. Second, it also means that a person takes responsibility for hisher thoughts and feelings and accepting that they can take him in the right direction in life. Being responsible is also described in the article as being ready to take the blame for whatever wrong a person causes without blaming other people for what they do not do. It is also described as the ability to shelf away the tendency of taking sides and describing other people as the determinants of your failure, success or what had, has or will become of you. It is therefore described as the value with which many people would feel comfortable living with others because people would be responsible for whatever they do or not do.

In my opinion, responsibility is the only virtue that many people shy away from because it involves standing ground even when the situation is not desirable. Thus is because it drives a person into another world where one is perceived as truly different from other people because of the level of true self a person harbors. Any person having the sense of responsibility is able to demonstrate to others that whether positive or negative, a person should accept that heshe is responsible for whatever happens.

Responsibility plays a significant role in the workplace because it helps to eliminate unnecessary conflicts which a rise as people try to heap blames on others particularly when such blames are malicious and ill intended to downplay the achievements of another person. Responsibility helps to maintain the cordial relationships amongst the employees and their employers because no one tends to take undue advantage of the other. Responsibility as a virtue impacts positively on me as a professional because it develops the virtue of being true to myself and to others.  It also creates in me the sense of self worth which means that I am able to carry out any particular professional obligation with minimum supervision. I would therefore apply it in the workplace to increase the level of trust between myself and the employer, myself and my colleagues and even within myself. It means that I would apply this virtue in the workplace to instigate the highest levels of trust between different individuals in the workplace. In addition, I would also apply it in the workplace to achieve the desired organizational goals and objectives by being personally accountable for the organizational success or failure. I would do this by accepting to be corrected and admitting to my mistakes in order to increase my level of performance. In this respect, responsibility is a core value without which human beings would constantly be at loggerheads because no one would admit to having done wrong. It calls for brevity in taking responsibility for whatever one does and therefore it is one of the core values a person may desire to have or develop in life.

(c) Information about Respect available from the article  HYPERLINK httpeqi.orgrespect.htm httpeqi.orgrespect.htm (Accessed on 18th February 2010)
The word respectfulness comes from the word respect. Being respectful means extending the hand of respect to others. The article above describes respect as the ability of one person to take another persons needs, feelings, ideas, thoughts, preferences and wishes into consideration. It also describes respect as the capability of a person to take the above seriously and to know that they mean a lot in another persons life. Hence, the article holds that being respectful to another person specifically means valuing their feelings and thoughts, listening, acknowledging, accepting their idiosyncrasies and individuality and being truthful.

The article continues to describe two ways in which respect can be shown which are through feelings and behavior. The article continues further to describe the importances of respect as the foundation for survival because without respect no single person would see the need to live among other people and hence such a person would contemplate death as the best option. Respectfulness commands a human being to make decisions with other people in mind. This means ensuring that whatever decision a person makes does not intrude into another persons feelings negatively in such a way that it causes harm and pain in another persons feelings. The article further notes that respect or being respectful transcends the boundaries of power held by an individual to encompass all the people regardless of their social status in the society.

In my own view, respectfulness contributes significantly in motivating a person to continue living. It acts as a seed planted by others and which stimulates a person to find hisher own place in the society. The reason for this is that respect flows from other people into a person and thus when other people display respect towards another person, they instill in a person the sense of self worth, appreciation and a sense of belonging. It is therefore one of the values which dictates to a large extent the level of harmony which exists in the society.

In the workplace, respectfulness plays a vital role in defining the roles played by each person. For example, it is easy to differentiate a manager from other subordinate staff due to the amount respect heshe commands from others. It is therefore an avenue through which harmony is maintained in the workplace even as people go about their duties. Respectfulness also increases the level of team work in the workplace as different people abandon their self ambitions and embrace each other to achieve a common goal.

As a professional, respectfulness has a great positive impact because it eliminates the vices of selfishness, irresponsibility and dishonesty in the struggle to embrace other peoples feelings and well being. It also instills the sense of order in my profession because it calls for respect for my seniors as well as my colleagues in the workplace. I can apply the value of respectfulness in the workplace through actions. As mentioned above, respectfulness can only be extended from one person to another and hence actions of honesty, appreciation, listening and considering other peoples opinions are some of the ways through which I can apply this value in the workplace.
