Political Justice

Justice is derived from the concept of individual rights and freedom based on proper ethics and morality. One can be said to be just when both the acquired traits and the natural laws are observed with a lot of fairness without being bias to any one and with a lot of rationality and diligence. Political justice is the right to take part in political process without being intimidated or denied fundamental freedoms and rights defined in the constitution. Political justice is therefore necessary in any political situation and bestowed on an individual as a basic right.

Denial of political justice
Politics is characterized with dirty tricks and phenomenon that can lead to denial of certain basic political freedom of an individual. For instance, the right to move freely, express opinion and the freedom to associate with others without being threatened by anyone or the right to receive information can be denied due to several factors. Political freedom can be denied to a person due to several factors such as race, cultural background, age profession and ideological differences. Political justice include even the right to be secure from harm, right to acquire education and the right to participate in an election freely without being rigged out.

Principles of political justice
Political justice does not just reflect on an individual alone but also means that every State or political community has a right to develop their own political system and structures without external influence. In any given State, justice can be violated due to poor structures and regulations that are instituted by the State or the community. Since every State is sovereign and independent, any external commands from another State is considered a violation of justice, and for justice to prevail, every State must recognize the existence of another without dictating political reforms or changes.

The principle of a free society must be observed, respected and protected from violation through proper laws and regulations that are in place. Political justice concerns with positive virtues such as being fair to everyone and protecting or respecting the property of every individual. According to Aristotle, justice can be classified in two categories distributive justice and corrective justice. According to his definition of the two categories of justice, distributive justice is whereby individual property is not grabbed or taken away by anyone and one is given what heshe deserves without being bias or being too fair to someone than others.

He further argued that proper terms of reference must be put in place to ensure that the regulations are followed. On the corrective justice, Aristotle was more concerned with justice to do with economic principles in distribution and sharing of properties based on equality and proper criteria in distribution to reduce conflict in the society. Aristotle believed strongly that lack of political justice can lead to poor governance characterized with violence, deaths, crime and corruption.

Gleeson (1998), believed that political justice can only be realized if people move freely and interact with others without constrain, he  argued that political justice was only common among States that were more liberalized and States that had better constitutions and morally upright leaders, that could not be easily compromised.

Rawls was more concerned with the freedoms bestowed on an individual and argued that provided the rights and freedoms of an individual cannot be protected by the State, then political justice cannot be easily realized by any body. Roberts (2004) believed that no individual could realize hisher freedom in isolation but this can only be attained when people come together and fight for their right. Rawls not only defended the principle of association in realization of political justice but also supported strongly that mutual responsibility and acceptance is necessary for political justice.

Just like Aristotle and other philosophers, he acknowledged that political justice is purely based on rationality and proper laws and regulation that help in maintaining order and upholding political standards. Equal opportunity to every individual is necessary for political participation and in promotion of political justice, proper organization and guidelines on election process is essential for political justice to prevail in any given State. Justice is crucial in a system and lack of it can be of great danger in realization of critical changes in any given system and it must be guided by laws, reasons and the desire to change.

Justice is both guided by nature and laws. Naturally, people are expected to respect the life of fellow human beings and should not take away the life of another person. Anyone who takes away the life of another must be punished according to the laws and should not expect sympathy or mercy. This is because justice must be accompanied with rationality or reasoning to ensure that justice is realized.

On the other hand, political justice can be violated especially by the politicians in that some politicians prefer giving gifts to voters or money but deny the voters the right to question how the community resources are allocated or spent in development projects this is a sign of political injustice in the community and denial of fundamental rights.

According to Mitchell (1992), justice is the ability to enjoy both natural rights and acquired rights without restrictions. On political justice, Mill argued that politics is dynamic and full of individualism that are either for individual gain, group or the State itself. He believed strongly that political justice cannot be achieved easily if certain rules are not observed or respected by the people in power or the subjects.

Political power is attained with a lot of injustice and one cannot be granted with certain fundamental rights and freedom easily since a lot of injustice and malpractices are part of their leadership. He argued that some leaders violate the rights of the citizens by denying them access to information and even the right to vote for their favorite candidates hence political injustice. Injustice cannot only be done to someone but even to oneself. Committing suicide is an injustice to the community and to the family and therefore injustice can sometimes be violated unknowingly.

Political justice can only be found in States where the rights of individuals are respected and the citizens are obedient to the laws, it entails responsibility and positive approach in solving political problems in the society. The society or the community must come up with proper structures to deal with the emerging political issues that may call for justice and responsibility.

Justice calls for morality that must be entrenched in the society to foster positive changes in the society. Good morals can only be maintained when the religious institutions are out to teach good morals to the young ones and the old. Positive result or political justice can only be realized if the existing religious groups are willing to comment on political issues that are considered relevant in the society hence upholding good moral standards promoting political justice in the society.

In most cases, law cannot help in upholding good moral standards but can only provide order in the community, law and morality varies on an individual background and upbringing. The divine laws are considered more important in the society as people believe that they conforms to Gods laws in the bible and therefore people tend to obey them than the laws provided by the government.

It is true that legal orders or provisions cannot help in maintaining justice in the society with the absence of morality. Public policies can be of great help in ensuring that certain institutional ideals and values on justice are not violated by anyone. Since justice is derived from the constitution and the people who are in position of power, it is not easy to expect justice from people who have the desire to rule others and not to be ruled.

This is because justice can lead to transparency and accountability in different political systems hence reducing the chances of maintaining power.

Conclusion
Political justice can result to many positive changes in the society, it can lead to development of economic sectors and political maturity of a given State or political system. With political justice people can have the chance to rule and to express their opinions freely without discrimination or fear. Justice is therefore the mother of good political culture, development, accountability and transparency in any given State.
